A new book titled A New Day’s Clarity: Young Arab Voices was recently published in Denmark by Per Kofoed Publishers. The book includes several poems and short stories by Arab writers and poets under 30.

The book is a culmination of a contest organised by The Danish Institute in Damascus in which quality texts were selected and published from entries that participated in this poetry and short story contest devoted for Arab youths and the changes witnessed by the Arab region since the beginning of 2011.

15 best prose and poetic texts were published in Arabic and Danish. The first four winning entrants were invited to participate in Copenhagen International Literature Festival in May, 2012. They are respectively Mauritanian short story writer Elhadj Ould Brahim, Tunisian short story writer Iness Al Abbasi, Palestinian poet Samar Abd Al Jaber, and Syrian short story writer Aram Tahhan.

The winning entries were chosen by a judging panel presided over by Syrian novelist Khaled Khalifa. The panel also included Anders Hastrup, the director of The Danish Institute in Damascus. Selected texts were translated into Danish by a specialised translation team patroned by June Dahy, teaching associate professor of Arabic literature in the University of Copenhagen.
